When I feel the need to relax and take my mind off things I like to flee to the realm of stories. Books, comic books, video games and in a lot of cases tv are all just one or another way of enjoying a good story. Wether you are the hero actively chopping up the bad guys on your computer or following one on screen or on paper is entirely up to your own tastes. Me? While I love a good video game or tv-series I most enjoy good old fashioned books, with a twist.
One of the fondest memories I have as a child is going to the library and picking out books with my father and sister. They would disappear into the adult and young adult section while I would scamper off to the comic book corner where I could read to my heart’s content. Rather then moving on to young adult books I began reading books from my father’s personal library. By the time I was fourteen I’d already gone through most of what his extensive collection had to offer and I had developed my personal tastes. Sci-fi became my mistress during those long hours between going to bed and finally turning off that night light.
Having children has not changed my hunger for books but it has drastically altered the way I eat them. (See what I did there? :p) Have you ever tried an audiobook? You should! With the arrival of my oldest it quickly became clear that any book not made up out of hard cardboard pages was destined to be destroyed. Since we are co-sleepers it also got very hard to leave on a nightlight! So I discovered audiobooks. I will share some of my favorites ones with you soon but for now head over to www.audible.com . They have an amazing collection of all sorts of audiobooks and the first one’s for free, so be sure to give it a try. Enjoy your day!
