You’ve probably noticed that I’ve caught the festival bug. Since the girls and I are basically inseparable, I only attend family friendly ones so that we can enjoy them together.
During those festivals I’ve observed a lot of mothers struggling to keep their outfits on point while managing to care for their children, standing in line or trying to move to the music. Seeing them struggle made me realise that there are a few big no-no’s when picking something to wear to a festival. Hence the following set of tips.
** Although I wrote this with myself and other fellow mothers in mind these tips can benefit anyone regardless of parental status. **
Here are my five golden rules to help you pick out the best festival outfit:
1. The best festival outfit is LIGHT.
I’m not advising against wearing dark colours. I’m actually a big black and autumn fan myself. ( Yes, even in summer. 😋 ) What I am talking about here is weight.
Don’t wear plateau shoes that are heavy on your feet or heavy to carry around if you were to take them off. Don’t take a heavy jacket or a heavy sweater. Avoid bulky items. Go instead for something lightweight. Your outfit of choice should be an asset, not a burden.
2. The best festival outfit is SHORT.
Long pants are too warm in a crowd and long dresses can get stuck. Something short gives you the much needed freedom of movement while making sure you stay cool. ( Pun intended! 😎 )
So grab your short jeans, those old sneakers and a funky tshirt! Shamelessness Macklemore-ize the shit of out of your wardrobe! #thriftstyle
3. The best festival outfit is MINIMAL.
Go for few or no accessories. The simpler you’re dressed the easier your day will be. Less stuff to keep track of that way too!
4. The best festival outfit is COMFORTABLE.
Comfort should always be the number one priority, whatever the occasion. When you’re comfortable in your clothes you’ll be more comfortable in your skin. And whatever the day than throws at you you’re more likely to handle promptly and with grace.
When you’re uncomfortable there’s a constant drip in your bucket of cranky and any new inconvenience might be enough to send you over the edge. And why spoil the day for yourself and your loved ones?
It’s also quite mentally and physically taxing to constantly have to adjust your clothes. More so than you’d imagine.
So please leave your tight skirt, pointy 10 inch heels and leather jacket at home! You’ll look great without them and you’ll feel great too!
5. The best festival outfit is REPLACEABLE.
Don’t wear anything you’d be too broken up about if lost or damaged. And definitely don’t wear your most expensive t-shit unless you’re ready to say goodbye. Wear something great yet cheap just in case someone runs into you with their red wine or you find yourself lying on the grass for a bit too long. 🌱
Have a great festival season! 🤗😘
