I’m constantly shattered between the “Omg, I can totally do that too!” ‘s and the “Wow, that’s so amazing and intimidatingly good – I’ll never reach those heights so might as well just give up now.. ” ‘s..
I have this oscillating feeling about all aspects of my life and everything I pursue.. Whether it’s about my crunchy parenting goals, my journey towards better health, my work as a writer/photographer and even with the simple stuff like my household chores and my meal prepping skills..
This feeling obviously stems from comparing myself to others. It is often said that comparing yourself to others is bad. I strongly disagree! I believe comparition leads to growth. If you’d have no one to compare youself to than you’d have a much harder time finding yourself and setting your
desired skill, quality and level targets. It’s also pretty great to see where you fit in in the world. Whom are your set skills comparable to, whom can you learn from and whom can you teach? Plus that along the way you discover so many creative takes on the subject you are pursuing.
All good and well you might say. But than what about this annoying uncertainty feeling? Should you succumb to the fear that you’ll never reach that desired level of mastery or should you take the leap driven by your interest in wether or not you can achieve your dreams ?
The fear-excitement-curiosity paradox, as Mulberry Journal co-founder Grace so beautifully put it, shouldn’t be an excuse not to pursue your passions and goals. On the contrary!
Feeling scared and even incapable is totally ok. It is a natural part of broadening your horizons and adjusting your world view to include your new objectives into your life. Just remember not to let fear hold you down! Be inspired! set small and achievable goals. You don’t have to become an expert overnight. Just take it one day at the time! Embrace the journey and enjoy your learning process! Happy growth! 🤗✌️
