Growing up I was a huge book worm. At first I listened to books on cassette but soon enough I commenced devouring the written word. I believe that said little about me and more about the times and circumstances I grew up in. Because what else is a young explorer and wanderer at heart to do when trapped in a mundane, dreary existence? Times have changed a lot since than and so has my life. Nowadays I rarely open up a book, whatever the format. I resort instead to compendious articles on various subjects and actual real life adventures and exploration. My thirst for stories and fantasy is quenched by the series and shows I play in the background as I go about my daily household duties.
If you’re wondering how to keep your mind occupied as you go about yours or are simply in the mood for a quick binge, here is a list of the most captivating and insightful animated series out there. According to me, of course! 😉
Who doesn’t love a humorous yet melancholic show about space and the future of humanity? A lot of people apparently, since it precociously got cancelled! 😫😣
2. Rick and Morty ( Obviously! 😃)
Fucked up yet brilliant scientist questioning marriage and schooling? Where do I sign up for a lifetime subscription? The mad, creative adventures and sharp, witty critique on various other aspects of our society are just a bonus!
This is by far the best animated show for the 21st century crowd! ‘My generation’ has once again done me proud! The social commentary is sublime, the characters are cleverly designed and relatable, the plot is wonderfully constructed… I basically have nothing but praise for this show!
I didn’t care much for this show when I first discovered it 6 years ago. I think I was too absorbed in my own struggles at that time to truly see it for the gem it actually is. Its ‘hard rock’ attitude and loudness were too big of a nuisance to me than. Luckily, I rediscovered it last year and I’m really glad I did! Follow the (mis)adventures of a dysfunctional anti-hero and his nemesis as they try to find themselves and define their place in the universe. Their entourage is comprised of the most colorful characters and their adventures are very captivating. If you’re a deep thinker and passionate about the human psyche as I am you’ll have yourself a field day with this wonderful show.
5. American Dad
Rich in social commentary yet easily palatable and full of fun, interesting characters. A show that can spark the most profound conversations about life in the 21st century.
Hot(head) spy with the body of a god, an extreme high tolerance for alcohol and a ton of mommy issues. In short, a psychologist’s dream client starring in his own show that brilliantly yet humorously exposes the darkest sides of governmental institutions, secret services and politics. And I haven’t even began discussing the co-stars! Definitely worth a watch!
This purple dog is just dope! Despite of finding himself in less than favorable circumstances he always soldiers on and conquers his fears like a pro. Even when scared out of his mind he still finds ways of solving problems and achieving the needed results. A true example for all of us! No matter the terror you’re feeling you must conquer it and keep going! We need to learn to see fear for what it actually is : nature’s motivator!
Profanity galore, so please be advised! If you can stomach it you’ll be rewarded with a hilarious show that touches upon many relevant subjects while entertaining the crap out of you! 😜
Old- school Italian Maffia family adapting to life in witness protection. The show documents their growth process as they become better, more tolerant citizens while still fighting to hold on to their outdates set of beliefs and values. It accurately depicts how slow and hard change can be and how influence always goes both ways. Can humans actually change? And if so, how much?
If you ever question human social behavior this is the show for you! Meet Jeff, a typical American guy on a quest for love and a purpose. His three extraterrestrial roommates observe and document his attempts while also trying to help him out.
Do you agree with my list? What are your favourite animated shows and why?
